The Journal of Strategic and Defense Studies (JSDS) adheres to a strict plagiarism policy to ensure the integrity and originality of published manuscripts. All submissions, whether under review or already published, undergo screening using the Ithenticate Plagiarism Prevention Software. Plagiarism, along with other unethical behaviors such as duplicate publication, data fabrication, falsification, and improper crediting of author contributions, is considered a serious violation of publication ethics.
Authors are reminded that submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals concurrently is unethical publishing behavior and will not be tolerated. Additionally, JSDS reserves the right to disregard manuscripts with duplicated content of up to 20%.
To aid in the verification of originality, JSDS employs CrossCheck, a service powered by the Ithenticate software from iParadigms, renowned in the academic community for its association with Turnitin. Editors utilize CrossCheck to screen all new submissions automatically within the editorial system. Furthermore, Editorial Board Members may choose to run similarity reports at any stage of the review process or post-publication.
It is important to note that while a high similarity score may raise concerns, it does not necessarily indicate plagiarism. A similarity score of 30% could denote overlap with a single source or minimal overlap with multiple sources cited appropriately in the bibliography. Therefore, the expertise of editorial members is essential in interpreting CrossCheck reports and determining whether any concerns regarding originality are warranted.
